Welcome
Welcome! My name is Jessica Torres, this is my 21st year teaching physical education for the Los Angeles Unified School District, 19 of which have been at Garfield High School. Basketball is what sparked my interest to teach Physical Education and in 2003, I earned my degree in Kinesiology from Long Beach State University and began teaching soon after. I am a proud Garfield teacher, alumni, and girls’ basketball coach. I am extremely proud to say that we have able to bring home a Division 1 LA City Championship and a Division 2 LA City Championship, making history for girls’ basketball at Garfield. I love teaching Physical Education and look forward to helping my students understand the value of life long physical fitness. One of the unique experiences that I along with our administrative team provide for our Garfield Students, is the exposure to a variety of Universities in Southern California. These campus excursions get our students excited about attending college and pursuing higher education and that is what motivates me to continue providing these opportunities. I am honored to serve our East LA community and to see the growth our school has made academically. To educate our East LA kids and see Garfield students succeed, not only in their academics but also in life, is what makes my job so satisfying. GO BULLDOGS!!
