Welcome Bulldogs and Families,

 

Hello my name is Ms. Karla Bernal, the newest member of the physical education department team. I am also the Head Softball Coach. I will be entering my 3 year as an educator with LAUSD.

 

Being involved with sports my entire life, specifically in Softball created a desire within me to start building the foundation to becoming a physical education teacher. I earned my degree in Liberal Studies at California State University San Marcos. After, I started working as a Substitute Teacher with LAUSD, now transferring into a full time Physical Education Teacher. With great pride and honor, I can say I take part of the rich Garfield alumni staff that we have here at Garfield. I love working with high school students whether it is through my coaching or teaching career. My vision is to inspire my students to reach their academic and life goals despite the different paths they have to cross in order to get there. It is a honor to serve our East L.A community and to see the growth our school has made academically. My student's successes are what motivates me everyday to be the best educator I can be in the classroom and on the softball field.
