The 76th Annual Student Speakers Contest took place on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the YMCA in East L.A. The contest is sponsored by the Lions Club (an Internationally Recognized Club). Two of our students participated in this event with the goal of advancing to the round that awards $10,000 in scholarship money.
In each step, the student that wins is awarded a check beginning with $75. The prize then increases to $150...... up to $10,000 in scholarship money.
At this recent contest Garfield High School won for the first time and our winner is Serene Beltran who won $75. She is now headed to the Zone Contest in Pico Rivera on March 16.
Let's cheer her on as she moves toward her $10,000 scholarship goal.
