Last year Garfield demonstrated marked improvements in its test scores. Garfield saw a 75 point gain in its API surpassing the 700 point marker for a total of 707 points.
Garfield attributes its successes to committed and passionate teachers and staff, targeted interventions in English Language Arts and Mathematics, the introduction of a block schedule, small learning community development, and the implementation of professional learning communities.
In addition, the return to a traditional two-semester school year reduced severe overcrowding and had a positive effect on student achievement.
On Tuesday, October 18, 2011 the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education presented our Principal, Jose Huerta, with a Certificate of Achievement.
