Memoir On November 17 1990, I was shot in a drive by shooting. The support by Garfield staff helped realize the "gang banging" life I was leading would soon kill me or put me in the penitentiary. Because the empathy and support of teachers like Mr. Bennet, Mr. V., Mr. Escalante,and Mr and Mrs. Kathy Lum who took me in to live with them (and many more!), I have survived the cruel streets of LA in Echo Park. I am now an Assistant Principal with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Garfield Staff of 1991 thank you for accepting me in spite of my many flaws.
