Year 1980-1983

Memoir I was one of those fortunate students who was taught by the Great Jaime Escalante. I say great because he was just that. He was much more than my A.P. Calculus teacher. The lessons that I learned from Kimo back in 1982-1983 I apply every day in my life. Whenever I had any doubts after I left GHS, I always remembered what Escalante taught us. When my college counselor at Oxy told me not to apply to law school, I remembered what Escalante taught us. When the associate dean at the UCLA School of law told me that I did not belong there, I remembered what Kimo taught me. Whenever I faced an obstacle, I always remember that Escalante believed in us. He believed in a bunch of kids from East L.A. The "ganas", the willingness to work hard and never give up, I carry to this day. Gracias Mr. Escalante for giving so much of your self to us. We can never repay you.
